BELINDA LEE
Co-Founder, Pinksalt
(In her 40's)
Her story (as shared by her nominator)
Belinda started her career as a graphic designer but decided to focus on her family and became a full-time mum instead. After her kids became independent, she decided to kickstart her career again and enrolled in a short fashion course as she always had a passion for fashion.
Belinda decided to start a swimwear line. She felt there was a gap in the market for modern swimwear in Singapore and wanted to create her own unique designs. Together with a partner, Belinda went on to start the label PINKSALT together in June 2017 with a modest swimwear collection and went on to produce resort wear and activewear as well. Belinda creates contemporary original prints with a graphic element for the label and also came up with original swimwear silhouettes.
I think that Belinda deserves to be on the list because she does not let age define her. She is brave to follow her passion and start a new business in a different field as well. She is not only an entrepreneur but also a career transitioner. She started out as a graphic designer and became a fashion designer. Despite the huge learning curve, she persevered and taught herself many new skills such as Photoshop, handling social media and managing customers.
Belinda is a great inspiration to women and really embodies the message that "age is just a number." I hope that her story will motivate more women to be courageous and follow their passions.
In her own words:
Greatest achievement
My 2 sons are my greatest achievement.

Biggest challenge thus far
One of my hardest challenges to date, was to start a business while going through an emotional separation from my husband of 22 years, which then culminated in a divorce. I am proud of that moment as that particular turning point in my life did not destroy my determination or stop me from moving forward to achieve something.

what judges say
Kudos to Belinda - She identified a niche, and went for the kill, all the while, juggling her personal life struggles. Very admirable!
