JESSIE PHUA
President, Singapore Bowling Federation
(In her 60's)
Her story (as shared by her nominator)
Jessie came into the sport of bowling more than 10 years ago, taking over an almost bankrupt federation. She put in her own money to fund competitions for athletes, and successfully turned the sport around. She has also helped the nation by being the chef-de-mission for multiple major games and was also once an NMP. A strong advocate for sports, she also spearheaded and helped out in various charity drives across the heads, raising hundreds of thousands for the less fortunate.
A respective sport administrator and leader in the sector who has led the federation in great heights. A great mentor whom I respect and learn much from. She was willing to transfer her knowledge and always generous in her sharing. A hospitable, humble and honourable woman who takes care of the business and the people in the business. One who makes decision for the best interest of the sector and a resilient lady who against all odds will fight for the betterment of the sport or a cause she truly believe.
Passion about sport development and helping others to succeed. Her decisiveness and willingness to serve. No hidden agenda. At the age of 64-65, she could have just retired and relax and spend personal time. But she chooses to serve the community.
Greatest achievement
Jessie has brought the sport of bowling to a new level in Singapore, coming in at its lows and bringing it to the state today where we have multiple world champions.
